Supporting A Victim

Broadly speaking, there are three types of interventions one should consider to give victims of domestic violence meaningful support. These can be related to the different stages of the cycle of abuse.

Here, we will mostly address ongoing intervention strategies. With them, we try to avoid crisis intervention in the first place, so that we can support a person as quick as possible. Maybe even before the explosion phase.

There are measures that focus on preventing the abuse from starting in the first place and making things like financial control less likely. For those already experiencing abuse, there is ongoing support. And for victims of domestic abuse in a crisis, such as having experienced sexual abuse or being severely injured, there are crisis intervention.
